You and I sat on the back steps
and we pondered the stars and life;
whispering into each other’s ear
amazement, wonder
and question after question.
We had no answers but we held each other
and we counted the shadows
that the stars pulled out of the night
and the hundred other places and things
that hid their secrets from us.
And we laughed.
